Meet Shanicka Edwards
a business owner, community leader, and mother dedicated to building a stronger, safer, and more connected Barrie. For years, I have worked alongside families, youth, local businesses, community organizations, and residents to create opportunities that strengthen the community from the ground up. My commitment to service is rooted in a simple belief: strong communities are built when people feel connected, supported, and empowered to succeed.
As an entrepreneur I have spent years helping business’ and organizations grow, solve problems, and create meaningful impact. Through my professional and community work, I have developed a reputation for bringing people together, building partnerships, and turning ideas into action.
Like many residents, I have watched Barrie grow and evolve. I have celebrated its successes while also recognizing the challenges facing our community, from social issues and public safety concerns to housing affordability, small business sustainability, and the growing concern on the future of our downtown core.
As a mother raising my family in Barrie, these issues are deeply personal. I want to see a city where families feel safe, businesses can thrive, young people have opportunities to succeed, and every resident feels a sense of belonging.
I am running for Ward 2 Councillor because I believe local government should be accessible, accountable, and connected to the people it serves. I am committed to listening first, leading with integrity, and working collaboratively to find practical solutions that move Barrie forward. My vision is a city that balances growth with community, compassion with accountability, and bold ideas with responsible leadership.
Together, we can build a stronger Ward 2 and a brighter future for Barrie.
Building a Better Barrie.
Ward 2 is the heart of Barrie. It is where people live, work, build businesses, raise families, access services, enjoy our waterfront, and experience the energy of our downtown core. Over the last several years, too many residents, business owners, and families have felt that our downtown and surrounding neighbourhoods are moving in the wrong direction. Concerns around safety, affordability, small business sustainability, youth opportunities, and downtown development cannot be ignored.
My Vision
My vision is simple: a safer, stronger, more vibrant Ward 2 where everyone has a reason to belong and a reason to believe in our future. I believe we can build a downtown that is welcoming and alive with small businesses, culture, events, housing, recreation, and opportunity. I believe we can restore a sense of safety for residents, seniors, women, families, business owners, and visitors.
My Approach
My approach is rooted in collaboration, accountability, and action. Before making decisions, I want to hear directly from the residents, business owners, community organizations, and families who are impacted by them. The people who live, work, and invest in Ward 2 deserve a voice in shaping its future.
As your councillor, I will be accessible, transparent, and accountable. I will ask tough questions, advocate fiercely for our community, and work collaboratively with residents, City staff, fellow councillors, and community partners to move Barrie forward.
